Last week former Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush, and Jim Hunt, former Governor of North Carolina, welcomed over 100 leaders in the education sector to Dallas, Texas, as they hosted the Future of State Universities Conference.

In addition to holding seminars and lectures, the Florida Current reports that the conference served as an excellent venue for Bush and Hunt to unveil their essay called "New Higher Education Model." In this essay, "they urge university officials to use online education to offset the financial burden caused by deep cuts in federal and state funding and to respond to changes in education." Their essay highlights an interesting perspective of a "nontraditional" public school education model. Not only do online programs or schools allow for a quality individualized education for many different types of students, but they may also help ease financial burdens.

Parents and students must be afforded the opportunity to take part in such great public school options as online learning, if not only to gain a better education for the children, but to also potentially offset some of the financial hardships that our country is facing today.
