In Our State
Utah parents continue to voice their support and appreciation for public school options. In particular, parents thank lawmakers for maintaining equal access and funding for all charter school students.
Getting the Word Out
Ensuring their voices were heard loud and clear, our Chapter’s parents hosted a family fun day at the Salt Lake City Zoo that drew more than 1,100 attendees. Local Coalition Chairs Melba Romero and Michelle Roberts gave pro-school choice speeches and Coalition members encouraged interested parents to get involved.
A crowd of 350 students, parents, and educators turned out to show support for more public school options at the Utah Chapter’s annual Capitol Day. During lunch, Champion of School Choice awards went to Chris Bleak from the Utah Association of Public Charter Schools, Judi Clark and Robyn Bagley from Parents for Choice in Education, and Laura Belnap from Washington Online. Families enrolled in grades K-5 heard remarks from State Senator Aaron Osmond, while State Representative Francis Gibson spoke to families enrolled in grades 6-12. In both programs, parents, students, and teachers enjoyed a presentation on parent power, led by state Chairs Melba Romero and Michelle Roberts, as well as a presentation on policy and politics.
