Georgia Parents for School Options applauds Governor Brian Kemp’s signing of Senate Bill 233: A Crucial Step to Empower Georgia's Families with School Choice

ATLANTA, April 23, 2024 – As advocates for educational choice, Georgia Parents for School Options stands firmly in support of Governor Brian Kemp’s signing of Senate Bill 233, a groundbreaking initiative that promises to revolutionize education in Georgia. With this bill, Georgia's families will be granted the freedom to choose the educational path that best suits their children's needs, ensuring students have access to high-quality education regardless of their ZIP code or economic background.

Senate Bill 233, introduced by Senator Greg Dolezal (R-Cumming), expands school choice options across the state by providing $6,500 education savings accounts to students attending public schools performing in the bottom 25% statewide. Families will have the opportunity to use the funds for a range of educational alternatives, including private school tuition, home schooling supplies, and tutoring expenses. Senate Bill 233 also allows students to transfer to school districts outside of their own. By allowing parents to make informed decisions about their children's education, this legislation promotes accountability, fosters innovation, and ultimately enhances student outcomes.

"We believe that every child deserves the chance to thrive in an educational environment that caters to their unique learning style and aspirations," said PSO Georgia Director, Hampton Mills. "Senate Bill 233 represents a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to prioritize students' needs and uphold parents' fundamental right to choose the best educational setting for their children."

With the enactment of Senate Bill 233 into law, Governor Kemp and the Georgia General Assembly have affirmed their commitment to empowering Georgia families, expanding educational opportunities, and ensuring that every child in Georgia has access to a quality education that sets them on the path to success.

Georgia Parents for School Options is an advocacy group that supports families and their pursuit of equitable access to a high-quality education. We defend the family’s right to choose options that are safe, enriched, and suit the needs of each individual child. We give a voice to all options, all families, all backgrounds.
